Kingston Health Sciences Centre

Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) and Kingston General Hospital (KGH) announced our intention to integrate operations and become one organization in June 2016.

  • The integration of HDH and KGH will be completed at the end of the day March 31, 2017.  On April 1, 2017 the two organizations will form a new hospital corporation called Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC). Moving forward HDH and KGH will be referred to as KHSC sites, i.e., KGH site and HDH site.
  • Work is underway to create a new visual identity for KHSC; however, each hospital site will retain its name and signage.
  • KHSC will have a single Board, CEO, Executive Team, budget, strategy and staff. The
  • Board, CEO and Executive Team will have responsibility and accountability for both
  • hospital sites. Dr. David Pichora will be the inaugural President and CEO of the new KHSC.
  • All HDH and KGH staff will become employees of KHSC on April 1. KHSC will become one of the largest public sector employers in our region and will be the largest hospital corporation in Southeastern Ontario.
  • Under the new KHSC, each site will continue to fulfill its unique role, with the KGH site providing complex-acute and specialty care and the HDH site providing acute-ambulatory care. The services currently offered by KGH and HDH will continue to be offered by the new organization. KHSC will not be reducing services or beds as part of the integration.
  • KHSC is committed to honouring the unique missions and cultures of both sites as we
  • move forward. The HDH site will retain its Catholic identity and mission, and the KGH site will remain a secular site.
  • As one organization making the most of pooled resources, KHSC will help to lift our health care system to a new level of innovation and investment that will translate into improved care for patients and families in our region.
  • This exciting integration will put Kingston on the map so that the KHSC can compete with other large academic health care centres in the province to attract the new funding and health care professionals needed to provide the highest quality of care in our community and region.
